My ultimate dream is simple: to never worry about another bill in my life. And I mean worry—that pit-in-the-stomach feeling when you get paid, only to watch most of your check vanish into living expenses. And just when you think you’ve taken care of everything, here comes another bill peeking around the corner. It’s the fear of the unexpected expense that makes me sacrifice the dream vacations, new clothes, spontaneous nights out, and all those little joys in life. Why? Responsibilities. That’s why.
I just want to be rich. But in my first attempt at "rich," I hit a hard truth: my time was already stretched thin. Most of my day was spent just maintaining my current life, filled with chores, grocery shopping, cooking, organizing, and squeezing in a bit of self-care (a quick shower) before bedtime. I realized that to achieve the life I dreamed of, I needed more than money—I needed a plan.
A Mindset Shift
This realization led me to one big insight: my thinking patterns had to change. I’d been so accustomed to worrying, stuck in a cycle of thinking that held me back from living fully. So, I asked myself some tough questions:
What truly makes me happy?
What am I passionate about?
Do I make myself a priority, or do I always come last?
The answers were eye-opening. I wasn’t living in a way that honored my happiness, passions, or even self-worth. And that was a problem. Interior decorating made me happy, and I felt most fulfilled when helping others. So, I started small and practical—I went out for some inexpensive DIY supplies to bring my vision to life.
Finding Happiness in DIY
With a modest budget, I headed to stores like Ross, Michaels, and The Dollar Tree (yes, inexpensive!). I stocked up on flowers, vases, pillows, candles, and wall art. Then, I made it a priority to focus on my happiness. Sitting in the middle of the floor with a few DIY projects, arranging flowers, framing pictures, and placing four-dollar candles around the house—I was in my happy place.
But as I embraced this passion, I also thought of ways I could share it. I created this blog to document my experience and, hopefully, inspire others to find happiness through simple, accessible projects too. Focusing on these heart-enriching activities started to drown out the constant worry about bills.
The Unexpected Return on Happiness
As I shared my DIY journey, friends and family started asking me for decorative ideas—and some even offered to pay! I realized I could monetize my passion, and I also discovered that blogging could bring in some income too. My gifts truly made room for me. By simply putting myself first, doing what makes me happy, and living out my passions, I ended up creating multiple income streams from things I would have done for free.
Living a Life Enriched by Passion
Sometimes, life’s responsibilities can make us forget that the greatest pleasures come from the simplest things. If you enrich your life with passion and happiness, you’ll find a type of “currency” that isn’t about money but about the joy that money can’t buy.
